Orientation & Mobility Specialist (O&M)

Location: Santa Clara

Setting: School-Based

We are seeking a qualified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (O&M) to support students with visual impairments in a school-based setting in Santa Clara, CA. The O&M Specialist will help students develop safe and independent travel skills within the school and community while collaborating with educators and support staff.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct orientation and mobility assessments for students with visual impairments
• Develop and implement mobility goals as part of the student’s IEP
• Teach safe travel skills, spatial awareness, and use of mobility aids (e.g., long cane)
• Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to support student independence
• Participate in IEP meetings and maintain required documentation

Qualifications:

• Certification as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) through Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP)
• Experience working with students with visual impairments, preferably in a school setting
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
